Black Crested

(Lophospingus pusillus)

black crested finch

Sometimes called the Pigmy Cardinal, the Black Crested Finch (Lophospingus pusillus) is from the open plains of Southern Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina. It is one of the larger finches measuring almost 5 inches.

They are extremely insectivorous and should be offered a large variety of insects in addition to the normal finch fix. They should not be mixed with other red birds as the male can be aggressive.
