Strawberry

(Amandava amandava)

The Strawberry Finch (Amandava amandava) is an ideal introduction to the Waxbill family. The male has a nice little song when he assumes his bright red breeding plumage. Given the right stimuli they are often eager to breed.

A 50/50 finch seed and wild seed is ideal. They also appreciate soaked finch seed, egg food, fresh greens, vegetables and mealworms. Fruit flies and their larvae are essential to breed these birds successfully.
