National Institute of Red Orange Canaries  (NIROC)


NIROC is a non-profit organization founded in 1939 to further the breeding and exhibition of the Color-Bred Canary by promoting their annual exhibitions of Color-Bred birds by and for members and other bird fanciers.


NIROC members try to help novice and experienced breeders with breeding and the care of canaries, finches and other cage birds.


Even though NIROC started out mainly as a Color-Bred Canary Club, many years ago it opened its doors to all other types of Canaries and other birds. Those breeds are represented at our annual exhibitions and are topics of discussion at our general meetings. To date, many members breed several of the breeds of canaries and other birds.

·  Developed a 3-Dimensional model of the Ideal Color-Bred Canary

·  Developed a uniform lighting standard for exhibitions
