PAWS ALERT...The Pet Animal Welfare Statute of 2005

The proposed PAWS legislation is a matter of concern to the American
Federation of Aviculture and its members.

• There is language in PAWS that is disturbing and could have
  consequences to aviculture.

• AFA is investigating the Congressional intent of the language to
  see if opportunities exist to revise the language to reflect the true
  intent of the bill's sponsors.

In the absence of an AFA Legislative Vice President at this time, we
have solicited Gary Lilienthal (AFA General Counsel) to inquire into
the matter. Mr. Lilienthal has agreed to do so and will report back
as soon as possible recommending a course of action. In the meantime,
we are actively evaluating candidates to fill the role of the AFA
Legislative Vice President.

Upon receipt of the report from Mr. Lilienthal, we will recommend an
appropriate course of action for our members. Check the AFA website
(www.afabirds.org) frequently for updates.
