Sally Huntington, NFSS President A Message
from the President

for all NFSS Members

1. Thank you, again to the out-going board. Take a few days off.

The incoming board has already been actively communicating with each other on a myriad of topics, all valuable. We have some housekeeping chores, locating files, sorting out the most effective communication paths, but we are off and running.

2. To freshen everyone’s minds, it is okay to communicate directly with any or all our elected board member volunteers. (See Article 5, NFSS by-laws)

1st VP is Armondo Lee. Briefly he is to fill in for me in my absence, coordinate the regional VP duties, including help with club affiliations, and, chair the education committee and programs.

2nd VP is Harry Bryant. Shall chair the ‘publishing committee’. In this case, Harry also manages the web site activities.

3rd VP. Kerri McCoy is leading the captive breeding program including finch save and will soon be introducing ‘soft-bill save’.

4th VP. Martha WIGMORE. As panel judge director coordinates and schedules our 28 judges. She is also research and standards chair.

Membership director. Martie Lauster, for management and protection of the membership listings.

Executive secretary. Annette Howard is responsible for minutes of all major programs and meetings, NFSS compliance with Robert’s Rules of Order, and maintains NFSS archive of official documents.

Treasurer. Mark Phelps is responsible to us for all things pertaining to money and funding.

Leg band secretary: Carol Heesen is responsible for ordering, issuing and record keeping on all matters pertaining to leg bands.

Liaison Officer: Ginny Allen, is responsible for interrelationships between NFSS and other Local, National and International avian organizations.

Regional VP’s, of which we have seven, shall be responsible for encouraging membership and club affiliation within their respective regions, and to hold a minimum of 1 regional meeting annually. For these important jobs, we acknowledge:

In region 1, N.E.- James Felix.

Region 2, S.E, Ron Castner.

Region 3, Mid-central, Canada and foreign, Darla Dandre.

Region 4, Midwest, Harold McBrayer. (no email)

Region 5, Mountain, Anna Sinclair.

Region 6, Pacific Coast & Hawaii, Vince Huntington.

Region 7, Caribbean, Julio Mateo Sato.

In addition to these elected officers, several appointed volunteers give us time and energy.

a. William Parlee is our Judge Emeritus and unofficial historian.

b. Steve Poe publishes and manages the Bulletin. (receives a small stipend)

c. Darla Dandre supplies the awards for affiliated club shows.

d. Annette Howard is our Finch Shop manager.

e. Martie Lauster is our new Advertising and Promotions Manager.

In further addition, NFSS has on call, the 28 panel judges, all experienced aviculturists. See the Bulletin for their names and contact information.

3. Everyone is a member of NFSS for different reasons or needs. Reach out for questions because there are no ‘bad questions’, only questions seeking answers. Questions seeking answers appear over and over on the invaluable member’s Internet site, the NFSS Officer’s coordination site, in ‘bird-talk’ at club meetings, and in letters and telephone calls throughout the country. Through our Regional VP officers, we have a path to hear from every member in every part of the world, whether the member has 1 bird, or flocks of them.

4. One great pathway to information and knowledge is when your club’s events are published in the NFSS bulletin and on the NFSS web site. For instance, as of now, some forthcoming National events to mark down and attend if possible will be: AFA in Tampa in August 8, 9, 10 & 11 and the NCBS in Santa Clara in November 14, 15 & 16.

Warm Regards

Sally Huntington
President, NFSS
