Each year many local bird clubs affiliate with NFSS to demonstrate their support of the only national society dedicated to all finch and softbill species - the National Finch and Softbill Society. Many of these clubs hold annual shows for the purpose of introducing the hobby, enhancing bird-keeping knowledge, and encouraging breeding programs with finch and softbill hobbyists - all stated objectives of the National Finch and Softbill Society as presented in the Preamble to our organization's Bylaws.
At these NFSS affiliated bird shows across the country, NFSS Panel Judges who have completed the rigorous and widely respected NFSS Apprentice Judge Program utilize their experienced and keen eyes, the NFSS written standards - published in "The NFSS Judges Handbook and Official Standards, 2nd edition", and fine communication skills to provide interested spectators a truly educational experience with some of the most delightful species at any bird show.
A complete listing of NFSS affiliated clubs and bird shows are published in "The NFSS Journal," as well as on the NFSS Website. The NFSS Show Classifications, an extensive listing of finch and softbill species frequently seen at NFSS exhibitions, usefully categorized, is included in "The NFSS Judges Handbook and Official Standards, 2nd edition", and on this NFSS Website.
In appreciation and support of finch and softbill breeders who share with others their birds through the avenue of bird exhibitions, NFSS has established the Champion Exhibitor, Exhibitor of Excellence and Champion Bird awards. NFSS respectfully recognizes exhibitors who have earned these awards for their annual and lifetime achievements at the National Finch and Softbill Society General Meeting, held in conjunction with the National Cage Bird Show.
It is our hope that finch and softbill breeders and enthusiasts can continue to share our wide variety of birds through the inspirational and far-reaching exposure of the NFSS exhibition.
