The Board of Directors Meeting for N.F.S.S. was called to order by the NFSS President, Dale Laird at 3:10 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2001.

Members present were; Dale Laird, Annette Howard, Kerri McCoy, Eileen Laird, Stephen Hoppin, Bobbi Keenan, Ginny Allen, Armando Lee, and Sally Huntington. Carol Heesen sent her vote proxy with Kerri McCoy

The first order of business was the discussion of the Auction to be held for the N.F.S.S. at the National in Manchester, New Hampshire. N.F.S.S. broached the idea of sharing the auction with NAPS (North American Parrot Society). "Steve Hoppin made a motion that NFSS take up the offer with NAPS and Kerri McCoy seconded the motion." Kerri also volunteered to chair the auction of NFSS along with Annette Howard who would be chairing the auction for NAPS.

Passed. 9 yes; 0 no

Finchsave Committee Update - Daniel Almaguer is in Peru so the discussion was limited by his absence. The Board heard that the committee is reviewing Jeff Bridge's application in black and white with no paperwork to date. The committee is looking at reviewing a two-tier network to be user friendly with the ability to get more people involved. The second tier would be for a cooperative breeding program. The Board will receive a list from Kerri McCoy as to who is on the committee. With Daniel being absent all votes etc. were tabled for now.

********************************************

A discussion followed about affiliated club information on the NFSS egroup. It was also discussed about allowing people who are not members of NFSS to have access to the egroup. There would be no cost to NFSS. Sally Huntington made a motion that: "Official clubs members from an affiliated club to have access to the egroup for a test period." Kerri McCoy seconded the motion. The details of how to monitor the affiliate members will be discussed with John Wilson egroup monitor.

Passed. 9 yes; 0 no

********************************************

Another item for discussion was the requirement of a club member to be an active NFSS member to qualify to be a delegate for affiliations. It was proposed we drop the requirement of a delegate from the club in exchange for the club to run an ad for NFSS. Ginny Allen is to add to her affiliation page a phrase "If your club doesn't have a delegate then...." as to the items discussed above. Ginny Allen made a motion to "Drop the requirement of a delegate for NFSS affiliations in exchange for the club to publish an ad for NFSS in their club publication". Kerri McCoy seconded the motion.

Passed. 9 yes; 0 no

********************************************

Sales Tax - the California Board of Equalization is stating that NFSS needs to collect sales tax on all band deliveries to California addresses. The Treasurer, Bobbi Keenan, will handle the paperwork for all monies collected and send the proper documentation in to the California Board.

********************************************

AFA sponsorship for a guest speaker at the Houston Convention being held August 8 - 11, 2001 was discussed. It was suggested that NFSS have someone with great background and knowledge of all to be our sponsored speaker. Bobbi Keenan made a motion and Annette Howard seconded the motion that we have Dale Laird be our representative. The Board upon vote unanimously agreed that Dale would be perfect for our representative. If was also agreed upon by all that a $400 budget for the representative be allowed.

********************************************

Bulletin - discussion followed with statements being received that we should once again begin listing the entire top ten in the journal for each show. We need to give Steve Poe more pictures and articles for publication to help him provide us with the best journal possible.

********************************************

Membership - We discussed having our bulletins on email for those that chose to do so in order to save postage, etc. for those members with computer capabilities. Paying 3 years of membership at a time was discussed with the only problem noted as how to designate where the monies collected at the time of sign up - would be credited. No vote taken.

********************************************

Bands - the color selection of NFSS bands was discussed. Dale Laird told the group that the color selection was started fifteen years ago to equal and meet the European Color Chart Cycle that was started. Every ten years the colors repeat. It was also discussed as to whether we should offer split bands. This was tabled until 2002.

********************************************

Recycling of plaques - A line or two in the journal asking people that want to donate their plaques back to either NFSS or a specific club to help out where expenses could be cut back for the host club. Also the same goes for Rosettes.

********************************************

Financial Report was reported with cash on hand as of 2/11/2001 of $9646.47. Our membership is at 550 as of this writing.

There being no other matters at hand, the meeting was closed at 4:15 p.m. Bobbi Keenan made the motion and Kerri McCoy seconded that we adjourn and all have dinner at the restaurant (Ponderosa) who donated us the room for our meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Annette Howard
Executive Secretary, NFSS
