QUARTERLY REPORTS

Report of Kerri McCoy, 1st VP

NFSS Raffle:

To date Harry and I have received a total of $262. Rather disheartening.

Education Committee for Website:

I have begun putting together a question/answer section for the education section of the website. I would much appreciate input from the Regional VP's. Write up some questions that you think the general membership may be interested in and include an answer(s). We can post these on the website and add on to them as we all have time. Members could then visit the education section of our website and scroll through the information. We will of course include a disclaimer that the information posted is based upon personal experiences and not cast in stone as the only possible answer.

Awards:

Ginny Allen is still presently filling award orders. I have asked her to continue for two reasons.

#1 we are still working out pricing from the vendor I am interested in.

#2 I am currently tied up with a personal situation that is taking up a considerable amount of my time. I thank Ginny for assisting.

I am excited about the new plaque design that I believe we will go with. I think the exhibitors will also be thrilled. Again, waiting to firm up pricing and customs issues. Dale, Ginny and I have been conversing regarding pricing, shipping, etc. Details will be available as soon as I tie up all outstanding issues with vendor.

Education in General:

I have been asked to guest speak for the Budgerigar and Foreign Bird Society in Toronto, Canada on 5/5 in Toronto. I do not believe that BFB is and I intend to suggest they affiliate. See Agenda items for more detailed information.

AFA Report

COPY OF A LETTER SENT TO AFA ABOUT THE PRESENTATION

Yes, NFSS would like a meeting room. I would like the time of the NFSS meeting NOT to conflict with the finch presentations i.e., ours, John Wilson's or Robert Black's. So the time is open after or before those presentations. The best place would be a small conference room at the hotel. Vince and my presentation will be "Hand Raised Finches & Softbills as Companion Birds". We will bring at least 10 different spices of hand-raised birds, describe how they were raised, what people can expect from the different birds.

If you need an outline, or more info just let me know.

Report of  Steve Hoppin, 4th VP

Judges Panel Director, Standards, Research and Points Manager

* Mr. Earl Courts has resigned as a NFSS Panel Judge due to health problems. He has served NFSS in this capacity for many years and will be missed by all.

* Ms. Julie Duimstra has been appointed by the NFSS Board of Directors to the NFSS Judges Panel. NFSS welcomes her aboard.

* Due to a NFSS member's concerns, the Judges Panel Director wishes to revisit NFSS' open policy (since inception - 1984) regarding exhibition of finch and softbill species. It seems members are being criticized for exhibiting stock not bred by themselves.

NFSS has always respected members' individual choice to exhibit avian species. Historically these have been imported or domestic bred stock. The exhibitor has always had the option of exhibiting their own bred birds as well as birds acquired by purchase, trade, gift, etc. (unless specified through seller/trader contract). It is important all Board members respect our members choice of exhibition and NFSS open policy.

Second Quarter Report, Special Elections:

NFSS Regional Vice President - Caribbean Ballots (including nominee Julio Mateo and write-in space) were sent to the Caribbean Region on April 15th to all NFSS members for Region 7 VP vote. An April 29th postmark deadline was implemented. Of the votes received, two votes were received for a non-NFSS member. NFSS is pleased to announce Mr. Julio Mateo, pro-tem Reg 7 VP, has officially been elected to the position.

NFSS Treasurer - Pro-tem Treasurer Bobbi Keenan of Leesburg, Fl has been nominated for the Office. Election and ballot (including nominee and write-in space) will be included in the May/June 2000 NFSS Bulletin. A July 20th deadline will be in effect for all returns.

Bands

We have filled 211 band orders to date this year. The scheduled price increase was delayed to allow time for it to be posted in the bulletin and website. We have had to place a small interim order for some of the larger sized bands.

Finchsave and Census

Only (37) 2000 Annual Census Forms to date and FinchSave has about 25 current members, I have not used any of my $70.00 FinchSave Budget left over from last year. I have donated money by paying for all FinchSave packets mailed and supplies to date about $30.00 this year. I am trying to save NFSS money in my area.
